Contemporary Actor Keanu Reeves |
Actor Keanu Reeves, renowned for his role as 'Neo' in the Wachowski Brother's Matrix movies, is famous for his deadpan acting style. Even in roles that typically would suit a more invigorated style of acting, he remains resolutely deadpan. His slightly confused, expressionless face has become his trademark. He wasn't always that way, however, only since 1999. Which begs the question: What changed before 1999 his movie, The Matrix?
Reportedly born September 2, 1964, in Lebanon, Reeves initially took comedy roles with a far more interesting, zany style, such as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. However, between 1996 and 1999, Reeves dissappeared for a self-imposed haitus. During this time, the press speculated that the actor was undergoing minor cosmetic surgury. Once he returned for the blockbuster The Matrix, his charismatic and off-the-wall acting style was gone, replaced by the deadpan style that he is characterized by today.

19th Century Actor Paul Monet |
Some history: A famous french actor by the name of Paul Mounet was also chacterized by a trademark deadpan acting style. Born somewhere in the mid 1800's, his exact birthdate is mysteriously unknown. Mounet gained his reputation in famous plays such as Othello, Patrie, Hamlet, La Furie, Anthony, Le Roi, and others. He then reportedly died sometime near the end of the 19th century under strange circumstances, with no body ever found. We do know that in 1875, the portrait at right was painted of him. His portrait bears striking resembelence to contemportary actor Keanu Reeves, no?
It would appear as though Keanu Reeves is a mere stage name.
